Hello,
As I write from my Cottage on Colonsay, I’ve been thinking about Aberfan and the sixtieth anniversary of the disaster, which fell on 21 October.
Anniversaries bring these events back into public view. Understanding them deserves attention throughout the year.
My two Aberfan books explore the disaster and its wider consequences.
Aberfan is the starting point I suggest for readers new to my work on the subject: an examination of what happened and the questions it raised.
Aberfan II takes that examination further into responsibility, institutional failures and the long aftermath for the community.
If you’ve already read the first book, thank you. You may find the second a worthwhile next read.
For some background before choosing, these free articles on Billy’s Book Club introduce the subjects:

My experience as an accident investigator continues to shape the questions I ask when writing. How did the danger develop? Who could have acted? And what happened to the people left carrying the consequences?
Those questions matter, as does remembering the people behind the history.
Thank you for reading and supporting my work.
Warm wishes,
Bill Stewart
