The Absence of Noise
The node did not follow them.
That was the first relief.
Not because it had been left behind.
But because it had not needed to come with them.
Mara guided the C-Starfall away from the convergence point.
Slow.
Deliberate.
No sudden movement.
No unnecessary correction.

Caution had become instinct.
“Distance increasing,” Patel said.
Hale did not respond.
He was watching something else.
Not the node.
The map.
Or what remained of it.

Quiet.
Measured.
Careful not to focus too hard.
The structure still existed.
Nodes.
Connections.

Not in what they saw—
In what they did not.
“It’s quieter,” Mara said.
No one corrected her.
Because it was.
The map no longer shifted.
