True Crimes from America’s Southern Shores

Murder, Mystery, and Memory along the Gulf Coast

About

Every story starts with a place, and for me, that place has always been the Gulf Coast. I spent years working the shipyards in Gulfport, Mississippi, and made my home just down the road in Ocean Springs. I know the sound of the cranes at dawn, the way the air tastes after a summer storm, and the hush that settles over Front Beach when the sun slips behind the pines. I’ve shared coffee in tackle shops, raised a glass in local bars, and listened to the stories that float through these streets like the salt breeze—some true, some wild, all worth telling.

When I set out to write this case, I wanted to capture not just the mystery at the heart of Ocean Springs, but the spirit of its people: hardworking, proud, and—above all—resilient. The Deep South is a place of contradictions and complexities, where tradition and change wrestle side by side, and where the line between right and wrong is sometimes as murky as the bayou water after a storm.

The characters in this story are Fact-fictional, but their struggles, loyalties, and quiet acts of courage are drawn from the real men and women I have known and worked alongside. Folks here carry their scars with dignity and protect their own fiercely. They hold grudges and forgiveness in equal measure, and they understand that survival sometimes means keeping secrets—but also, when the time comes, standing up for the truth.

I hope that, in reading Rachel’s story, you felt some of the tension, hope, and heartache that pulse through Ocean Springs and towns like it across the South. This is not just a tale of crime and consequence; it is a love letter to a place that has shaped me, and to the people who taught me what it means to endure.

Thank you for walking these streets with me, for listening to the whispers in the marsh grass, and for bearing witness to the strength and stubborn hope that live on after every storm.
